What to Include in the Review – A Guide

  • Inspiration: Talk about how you decided to buy the bike and what inspired to choose the model you have chosen.
  • Regrets: After a few weeks of using it, every biker can find fault with his bike. Just like humans, no bike is 100% perfect. Talk about that.

  • Details: Talk about the price, mileage, handling and other details unique to your bike. General details which are available in the official website like specifications of the bike can be left out.

The above points are just a guide and you can write your review in your own unique way – which is most appreciated at BikeAdvice.

2012 Yamaha YZF-R1 Gets Traction Control

Posted: 15 Sep 2011 02:56 AM PDT

Original Source: 2012 Yamaha YZF-R1 Gets Traction Control from BikeAdvice.in

Earlier we'd been reporting about all the Indian bikes going for upgrades. But now, the situation is flipped. All the major International models have now taken that major step. Yamaha's flagship model, the YZF-R1 is now ready for an upgrade.

The 2012 model has got new graphics onto its body which is slightly different and more gorgeous when compared with its older version, which is the present one. But, this is not the hottest topic among the sportbike fans. The inclusion of Traction Control is what now differentiates this model from the rest of the sportbikes. The traction control that is incorporated in this model is a six stage traction control. However there are a few sources which also mentions that the nose of the bike is slightly changed to differentiate this 2012 model from the 2009-2011 model.

However, the basic structure of the bike remains unchanged and is still immediately recognizable. MCN states that the sources from the company insiders have said that the basic design will remain the same atleast for the next two years. The six stage traction control becomes standard in this new version of this existing bike. The Power-mill of the bike remains the same with absolutely no change. It's the same 998cc, Liquid cooled 4-stroke DOHC engine that powers the bike still.

Out of all the changes, the following are the most visible changes.

  • Facelifted  headlamp and the lower fairing
  • Remapped ECU for smoother and better power delivery and to boost the low and mid range power
  • New LED front lights
  • The heatshield in the exhaust and the end caps have seen a facelift
  • MotoGP inspired top yoke

The traction control works by using front and rear wheel speed sensors which detect the rear wheel spinning and then adjusts the fuel injection, throttle opening and ignition timing to reduce power. In simple terms, Traction control helps limit tire slip in acceleration on slippery surfaces.

Thanks to MCN

BMW Showcases Concept E

Original Source: BMW Showcases Concept E from BikeAdvice.in

The 64th IAA International Motor Show got under way on Tuesday in Frankfurt, Germany. The world's largest auto show usually has some very significant unveiling and launches and one of the most interesting concept that went on display this year here was the BMW Motorrad's Concept 'E'.

The Concept 'E' is an electrically powered scooter that follows the lines of the previously launched Concept 'C'. 'Urban Mobility' is the new business which BMW is now into and thereby to prove the company's potential to come up with most styling electric scooters, such exhilarating products are showcased in world class auto expos.

With the rise of traffic in most of the cities followed by an increase in fuel price is becoming an issue all across the globe, the rise for the need of electrically powered vehicles are felt which the company tries to work and develop on an e-scooter with sustainable technological solutions and the aesthetic design of the Concept e provides a response to these changing urban mobility needs.

Dexigner.com has reported that'BMW Motorrad designers have developed the style and shaping of the e-scooter of the future – electric, digital, dynamic. The designers deliberately allowed themselves plenty of freedom so as to be able to strike out new, creative paths in the design of components and surfaces.

The intelligent arrangement of the electric motor, power electronics and battery in conjunction with the special design of the vehicle geometry promises a high degree of agility and light-footed handling.

BMWi High Voltage Technology makes it possible to achieve acceleration levels which can perfectly match those of a scooter powered by combustion engine. Efficient energy regeneration during braking in conjunction with the powerful high-voltage battery extends the realistic range to 100 kilometres.

Full capacity is restored for the rider’s use after just three hours of charging at a regular household power socket. Just enough time to admire the exceptional design.

The Concept ‘e’ perfectly reflects the exclusive design style of BMW Motorrad, conveying emotion, dynamic performance and innovation. The so-called split face runs from the upper trim section to above the front wheel cover, giving the study an unmistakable and dynamic front silhouette.

The Concept ‘e’ is more than just an idea for a new vehicle. In addition to the technical functionality and quality of the scooter, the BMW Motorrad designers attach importance to an emotional dialogue between rider and vehicle. Their basic premise is that a vehicle has to do more than just function – it has to arouse the rider’s emotions, too. It has to inspire the rider again and again, as well as reflect its specific technological features.

The ultimate reason for the coming up of Concept 'e' from the stable of BMW is to set benchmark in terms of both quality and innovation when it comes to electrically powered scooters apart from  projecting this type of urban mobility brands as the next alternative to the present two wheelers.

The website mentioned above also states that 'The successful BMW Motorrad design style is reflected in the styling of the twin-tipped spoiler in the floating panel of the front trim, a boomerang-shaped, aerodynamically formed floating panel. The short, sporty rear highlights the active riding character of the electrically powered scooter, giving it a visual sense of dynamic performance which is underscored by the low cut windshield.'

As you can see in the images here, 'The front and rear side trim sections finished in “Light white” generate a fascinating contrast with components such as the upper trim section in “Black chrome light” and side sills coated in “Black chrome dark”.

The concept’s overall impression of high quality is borne out by finely cut details in “Natural aluminium”, the asymmetrically designed, solid-milled holder for the front trim section and the central tunnel in “Textured steel”. The design of the light alloy wheels is derived from the styling of the BMW i automobiles.

What differentiates this scooter from the rest is the technological advancements that is incorporated in this concept. To give you an instance, this concept is fitted with any rear view mirrors as in any traditional two wheelers. Rather, what happens here is that two rear cameras are fitted in the glass of the rear light cluster which clearly what is happening behind the rider on two LCD monitors installed in the speedo cluster.

If BMW Motorrad continues conceptualizing such brilliant brands, they are sure to be the market leader in another few years (for which we, the riders don't have to regret!)

Bajaj Auto may launch four new models in Indonesia in the year 2012. Currently, the company is testing four models namely Avenger 220cc (reg. no. 242/IUBTT/TPT/8/2011), Discover 150cc (reg. no. 1244/IUBTT/TPT/8/2011), Discover 125cc (reg. no. 1241/IUBTT/TPT/8/2011) and Discover 100cc (reg. no. 1243/IUBTT/TPT/8/2011).  Apart from this the company is also conducting surveys regarding feasibility of launch.

Commenting on testing of this new four models in Indonesia, Tomotaka Ishikawa, President Director of Bajaj Auto Indonesia (BAI), said that they are still testing and not sure when they will launch these models. He said that there are lots of things to be done before the launch of variants like surveys, feasibility study. However, he gave the hint that the models will be launched in the year 2012.

As per the comment of Tandju Rizal (Marketing Manager, Bajaj Auto Indonesia (BAI), the first model launched would be Discover 150 cc and the other models will follow the suit.  He also said that Bajaj Pulsar 180cc and 135 cc is doing good business in Indonesia. However, the company needs to expand its product portfolio to increase the sales. Bajaj Auto currently has three variants in Indonesia namely Pulsar 135 LS, Pulsar 180 CC and Pulsar 220 CC.

Indonesian two wheeler industry is third largest in the world after India and China and it is expected to cross 10 million two wheeler sales by the end of 2012 growing at the rate of 15%. Indonesian two wheeler industry is majorly dominated by Japanese manufacturer as close to 98% sales come through Japanese manufacturers. Currently Honda and Yamaha are dominating the Indonesian two wheeler market. Having these facts and figures, Indonesia is a market where Bajaj Auto wants to expand aggressively. The company is also planning to set up CKD (completely knocked down) plant in Indonesia.
