Greetings! As you might know that Hero MotoCorp (formerly known as Hero Honda) has unveiled its brand identity and new dirt bike called the Impulse at London, we thought of bringing in the in depth details of this dirt bike. You might be surprised by the fact that Hero's Impulse is the derivative of Honda's NXR 150 Bros.

There is no official announcement regarding the technical details and the features of this new bike as of now but we have compiled some technical stats for our readers from various sources. So here are the most expected technicalities of the Impulse; the bike will sport a 149.2 cc OHC, single cylinder, 4 stroke air cooled engine with a capacity to produce a max power of 13.8 hp@ 8000rpm and 13.6 Nm of torque @ 6000rpm.

Also the bike sports a five speed transmission system with a 12 liter fuel tank with a reserve capacity of 2.3 liters. Also the bike sports telescopic fork front suspension and a monoshock rear suspension. Other specs of the bike include the weight at 119.1 kgs and wheelbase of 135mm.

The bike was unveiled by the company in a humongous ceremony with Ranbir Kapoor being the brand ambassador. Some of the other features of the bike include gas charged nitrox rear suspension, higher ground clearance, smoother handling, large diameter wheels and Hero's promise of the optimum performance. Hero is very happy to have unveiled this new bike though there has not been a word on the price of this bike.

Apart from the features mentioned above other misc. things that are worth taking a note are; a high mount exhaust muffler, raised fenders and the sporty adventurous look of the bike. The instrument panel comes with service due indicator, clock and fuel gauge that's adds to the glam part of the bike.

Also the bike will be available in many colors viz. Black, Blue Metallic, Sports Red, Leaf Green Metallic and Vibrant orange. All in all, the company is trying very hard to establish their feet in the market after the exit of Honda. We will have to wait and see if Hero succeeds to make a mark with their new bike.

Ducati, the Italian brand that is synonymous with superbikes across the globe is replacing the presently running Streetfighter 1098 with a little more powerful all new Streetfighter 1198. There is an increase in the engine displacement of 100 cc in the new model. Ducati is also planning to install the flagship Testastretta 11° motor which is fitted in the Ducati Multistrada 1200 and the Diavel which was launched in India very recently.

There is also another streetfighter model with a lower displacement of 848 cc and the model is the Ducati Streetfighter 848.

According to Zigwheels, 'The Bologna based company will continue to focus on the huge sales success of its current hit models like the superbikes 848 and 848EVO but simultaneously the company also wants to add the Streetfighter range in order to open up a new market.'

These new models are not facelifted versions of the older ones. There will be no difference in the body observed between the current models and the new ones unlike every other rand which is facelifting its current models.

These bikes will go for a worldwide launch by the Septmeber of this year. Also is expected that the bike will enter Indian market on the same month.

The good news for Ducati fans is that apart from the Strretfighter models, it is rumoured that a Ducati Superbike 1199 might dominate the roads across the world by 2012.

The Ducati was announced on November 6 of 2007 for the 2008 model year which then replaced the 749 model. In August 2010, Ducati announced the 848 Evo, as the evolution of the model. The bike featured small revisions such as a black swingarm, Mono-block, Brembo brake calipers, steering damper mount as well as some very minor engine revisions.

The Ducati 1198 is a sport bike made by Ducati since 2009. For the 2011,there are two models: the 1198 and 1198SP (replacing the 1198S). The 1198 shares design elements with its predecessor 1098, but has more power and torque, redesigned wheels, lighter headlights, traction control, and lighter fairings (on the S model), and a few minor paint changes. Another carry over from its 998 heritage is a distinctive single sided swingarm.

Both these models are more likely to be made available in a range of 3 colours which are matte black, pearl white and the flagship Red colour of Ducati.

Ducati has already felt the importance of being in the sub continent and has also started considering India as a potential market for its bikes and has launched a series of line ups here. With the addition of these 2 Streetfighter models to the present line up, it is sure to strengthen up its position on India. We'll come up with a separate write up on the specs and the price of these 2 models sometime later.

What do you think about these 2 offerings from Ducati to India. Leave your thoughts in the form of words in the box below.

Polaris Talks about Indian Motorcycles

Posted: 12 Aug 2011 08:25 AM PDT

Original Source: Polaris Talks about Indian Motorcycles from BikeAdvice.in

Even before we get into this topic, the term Indian Motorcycles refer to the brand by the name of ‘Indian Motorcycles’ and not the motorcycles in India generically. Its just to avoid our dear readers from getting confused. The month of April this year saw the acquisition of Indian Motorcycles by Polaris, the brand that is owned by Victory Motorcycles.

Indian motorcycles were manufactured from 1901 to 1953 by a company in Springfield, Massachusetts, USA, initially known as the Hendee Manufacturing Company but which was renamed the Indian Motocycle Manufacturing Company in 1928. The Indian factory team took the first three places in the 1911 Isle of Man Tourist Trophy. During the 1910s Indian became the largest manufacturer of motorcycles in the world. Indian’s most popular models were the Scout, made from 1920 to 1946, and the Chief, made from 1922 to 1953. The Indian Motocycle Manufacturing Company went bankrupt in 1953. A number of successor organizations have perpetuated the name in subsequent years, including the current company which has been manufacturing Indian motorcycles since 2006.

Both companies are owned by parent company Polaris Motorcycles and for the first time in its 110 year history, Indian will be owned by a company with a net worth of $2.5 bn  portfolio.

According to mrtorcycleusa.com, 'Don't expect any drastic changes soon. Steve Menneto, Polaris GM, revealed to Motorcycle USA at the recent press launch for the 2012 model line, that Polaris will run the two brands as separate entities. Polaris believes the Indian name gives them a premium presence in the heavyweight motorcycle niche. Menneto emphasized production on the two brands will remain separate. Different product management, different marketing teams, different engineering teams, and separate inside sales teams. Ross Clifford will be the new Managing Director of Indian Motorcycles while Gary Gray will be the new Product Director.'

We have been so far hearing news on increasing the dealer network by many countries. But, Polaris is trying to limit its network to have a tight distribution network which will work on the concept of “sized for success.”  These limited dealerships will enable the company to provide premium service which will be on a top priority list.

Also the target market for Indian Motorcycles will be the Die-Hard fans and enthusiast who appreciate the brand's long-standing American heritage.

The parent company has however declared that there will be no influence of Polaris on the 2012 Indian models. The above mentioned website also claims, 'Mr. Mark Moses, GM of Indian Motorcycles Charlotte, attended the first dealer show under the new ownership and mentioned in his newsletter plans to build a 110 Special Anniversary Edition Chiefs. Each will come with a special leather jacket and other commemorative items. Only 109 will be available to the public because the 110th will be kept by Polaris in honor of the first Indians to be built at Spirit Lake, Lowa'.

The company's newsletter also states, '"Moving is always a hassle, more so when it’s an entire factory. So don’t expect any quick moves or radical approaches. Changes will be evolutionary, not revolutionary. While many elements are still in development stages, the pricing structure for new Indians will be the same.

Indian will remain a limited edition ultra premium motorcycle. It will not compete at the lower end of the market. Consider that Volkswagen also owns Audi, Bentley and Lamborghini and you begin to get a glimpse of the long term strategy.

We will not see 2012 model Indian Chiefs until December-January and there will be fewer models and colour combinations. (Only three two-tone paint combos will be available, plus solid black and solid red.)".

This is all Victory Motorcycles had to tell about the 2 sub brands which are considered to be the bike every enthusiast need to have. Let's see how the acquisition of Indian Motorcycles helps the parent company in the future.

M.Naren.
