Off late we have had news about road bikes (bicycles) from big giants like Audi, McLaren and a few others too. Now a Polish designer has come up with a bike made of plywood. The advantage of plywood is its durability which a bike as a mode of city commuting badly needs. The bike is named 'Bonobo.'

Warsaw designer Stanilav Ploski is the designer of this bike. Stanislav Ploski who studied at the Faculty of Industrial Design of Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and at the National College of Arts and Design in Dublin, Ireland. He also works as a freelancer in web, graphic and product design as well.

According to inhabitat.com, 'the bike is made with bent plywood hooked together with metal fixtures. By using a special bending process to form the bike, the flexibility of the plywood introduces a new level of comfort and efficiency into the art of cycling.'

The bike is designed keeping the city commuters in mind to provide a relaxed driving experience. The bike comprises of a simple drivetrain and sports hydraulic disc brakes too.

Commenting about his new bike Bonobo, Ploski says,"It is built to serve urban cyclists who wish to ride comfortably and with style. The frame utilises natural properties of plywood – a natural composite material that is light, strong, and absorbs vibrations. Geometry of the bike ensures a relaxed riding position and lets the user experience the pure pleasure of cycling. Components were selected with simplicity and easy maintenance in mind. A single gear drivetrain and reliable hydraulic disc brakes require minimum attention from the user. It is also possible to install an internal gear hub or a belt drivetrain."

The bike was on display at Berlin's 2011 Designmai exhibition. The bike looks gorgeous with its brown and green colour scheme which looks cool and new. Since this is just a concept bike, no details on the price of it is mentioned.

How do you like this bike? Leave your thoughts in the form of words below.

Ducati 1199 – Spy Picture With Details

In the world of premium bike makers there is always one name that stands out and that is Ducati. Ducati has had more than enough experience of producing bikes of great caliber thus making consumers and bike lovers crave for more. Recent news relates to the release of Ducati's newest baby i.e.

Ducati 1199 which happens to be the most awaited international premium bike of 2011. Ducati 1199 is a super cool machine with lots of powerful features. Ducati 1199 is spied and we have bought the spy pictures especially for all our readers. Couple of times in the past there were speculations regarding this premium sports bike but this time the spy picture is caught on camera.

The spy picture reveals that the bike is a not very small and compact as was speculated previously and thus giving the rider a comfortable and spacious ride. As the image is captured from behind it can be clearly seen that the bike has got an underbelly exhaust like Ninja650R with a header pipe from the front cylinder making its way into the can (this will add to the torque of the bike). However the picture doesn't give any clear sight of suspension which may mean that the suspension is placed on the left hand side.

The bike looks to be in great shape with all the styling and graphical part being taken care off. The tail end of the bike is sporty and thus it gives the bike that extra extension that one would normally expect in a sports bike. The speculations are also going on if the bike will sport a MotoGp derived stressed air box frame or the traditional trellis frame. All in all, the bike looks great in the picture and the only thing left for us is to wait and watch if Ducati delivers what it is promising.

Piaggio to Increase its Production Capacity of Vespa

Original Source: Piaggio to Increase its Production Capacity of Vespa from BikeAdvice.in

Piaggio seems to be all set to bring in the Vespa range of scooters.  Vespa is a brand that is very synonymous with scooters in India. They are known for their styling and I can still remember the days when it was considered to be prestigious owning a Vespa.

As we had mentioned in a few write ups some point of time earlier, Piaggio will most probably be displacing the all new Vespa 125 in the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo.  This Italian Auto-Maker has now become ready to increase its production capacity from the present 1.5 lakh units to a whooping 3 lakh units.

The price of the Vespa 125 will be around INR 60,000 which is pretty expensive for a scooter. But the company has presently decided to concentrate only on the upper segment market and not the entry level one.

Mr. Ravi Chopra, Chairman and Managing Director, Piaggio India said, "We see a tremendous opportunity for a range of scooters since this a market which is growing. So, we will double our scooter production capacities from 1.5 lakh annually, which is for the Vespa, to 3 lakh per annum by the first half of 2013 to produce this range of scooters. We also see growth in upper end of the motorcycle market, in the executive and premium segments rather than in the entry or economy segment. Therefore, we are evaluating the feasibility of bringing in our upper end bikes, keeping in mind growth in this segment."

The scooter will most likely hit the roads son after the auto expo, might be by the March 2012 itself. This is possible because of the fact that the company will commence production by the end of this year onwards. The investment that will be pumped to increase the manufacturing capacity is gonna be 30 million Euro.

As I was working for a project, I found that the birth of Vespa brand very interesting and here I share it with you.

In the year 1944, two Engineers from Piaggio, Renzo Spolti and Vittorio Casini designed a motorcycle for the company with bodywork which fully enclosed the drive-train and forming a tall splash guard at the front. In addition to the bodywork, the design included handlebar mounted controls, forced air cooling, wheels of small diameter, and a tall central section that had to be straddled. Officially known as the MP5 (“Moto Piaggio no. 5″), the prototype was nicknamed “Paperino”.

But, Enrico Piaggio (the son of Piaggio’s founder Rinaldo Piaggio) was displeased with the MP5 that was built, especially with its tall central section. He contracted an aeronautical engineer Corradino D’Ascanio, to redesign the scooter that was built by the in house engineers.

D’Ascanio then developed the MP6 prototype which had its engine mounted beside the rear wheel. The MP6 design also included a single sided front suspension, interchangeable front and rear wheels mounted on stub axles, and a spare wheel. Other features of the MP6 were similar to those on the Paperino, including the handlebar-mounted controls and the enclosed bodywork with the tall front splash guard.

Upon seeing the MP6 for the first time Enrico Piaggio exclaimed: “Sembra una vespa!” which means “It resembles a wasp!” and that's the way the name Vespa came into being. Piaggio named this new scooter on the spot. Vespa means Wasp in both Latin and Italian The name also refers to the high-pitched noise of the two-stroke engine.

The scooter segment in India is indeed a fast growing one. Let's wait for a feew more months to see how Vespa performs in India after its re-entry.

Hero MotoCorp Updates its Website

Original Source: Hero MotoCorp Updates its Website from BikeAdvice.in

Hero MotoCorp has finally updated its website. The logo of the company in full screen with the tagline 'Hum Mein Hai Hero' welcomes you to the site. Once the logo goes away, then comes the real website.

It looks really fresh with the nice white background. Though the  tabs in the site are  almost the same, there is an upgrade in the  layout.  My interest grew to see if the all  new dirt bike HMC  Impulse and the scooter Maestro are added to the product  portfolio or not. But the effort was fruitless, for they aren't added  yet.

HMC has also followed the footsteps of every other auto maker in  India by adopting  social media marketing by coming up with  exclusive pages in Facebook, Twitter and  YouTube as well. With  bikes such as Impulse targeted only form youth, this mode of  marketing becomes mandatory for the company.

The site is developed and maintained by Law & Kenneth, which is also a creative partner to launch and establish the new brand for the company. The independent brand communications firm was mandated to devise the new brand positioning of the company.

As I'm posting this video, I'm in Singapore and I'm literally waiting to see the new TV commercial of Hero MotoCorp. I don't know if it is started being aired in India or not. The ad clearly reveals the transformation of Hero MotoCorp from a Japanese dependent nation to a complete Indians company. Nice to see this ad on the special occasion of Independence Day.

This song is sung by the Oscar winning Music Composer A.R.Rehman which adds glam to the ad. I really loved this commercial and now its here for you all to enjoy as well.

What do you think about this new TV Commercial? Do you like it? Does it make you proud within? Leave your words below.
