The month of September this year has proved to be a month of great potential for the major Two wheeler manufacturers in the Indian sub continent. On one side, we’ve been hearing about the constant interest rate hikes which actually should have had an adverse effect in the automobile sales. But what happened in the Indian market is exactly the opposite of it.

Companies have posted a record sale this month when compared with the sales figure of the same month, previous year. Indian major makers, which include Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto and TVS have all posted record sales in September 2011. The reason that is attributed for this record sales is the fact that customers who are interested in buying small cars are turning towards buying new two wheelers, owing to the constant and continuous hikes in the fuel prices.

The company to have posted maximum sales figure is the Hero MotoCorp, which is doing amazingly great in the market following the split from its Japanese ancestor – Honda. Hero MotoCorp has sold 5.49 lakh units which accounts for a stunning growth rate of 27 per cent. Volumes for the first six months of the fiscal have crossed three million units.

Rejoiced about this best figure, Mr Anil Dua, Hero MotoCorp’s Senior Vice-President for Marketing & Sales said, "Sales have been regularly in excess of half a million two-wheelers per month since the formation of our new company. We expect this momentum to continue into the festive season, and our plans are in place to meet the market demand."

To recall, World's largest two wheeler manufacturer Hero MotoCorp which is a New Delhi-based company closed the second quarter (July-September) of 2011-12 with sales figure of 15.44 lakh units, which in total accounted for a growth of 20 per cent when compared with the corresponding quarter, the previous year.

When it comes to the second major player in the market – Bajaj Auto, the motorcycle sales grew at 18 per cent which also broke its own record. Note that Bajaj Auto has only motorcycles in its portfolio and no scooters in it.

TVS Motors, South India based company and the 3rd major player in India when it comes to two wheeler manufacturing crossed the 2 lakh unit mark accounting for a domestic sales growth of 16 per cent. Also, TVS’ exports were up 27 per cent with a sales figure of 25,973 units.

Mr Abdul Majeed, auto practice leader at PwC said, "People who want to buy small cars and can’t hold back their purchase are going for two-wheelers instead because of the poor market sentiments. Also, many people who already have cars are buying scooters and bikes for their personal daily trips, so that they can save on higher fuel expenses. They tend to keep the car only for family trips."

This festive season will account for moiré sales for these companies as companies will begin to offer continuous discounts and offers. As a result, all that is gonna happen is that 'Customers are gonna be spoilt for choice' which is exactly what we need right?

Hyosung GT650N & GT250R Coming to India Soon

Posted: 06 Oct 2011 11:00 AM PDT

Original Source: Hyosung GT650N & GT250R Coming to India Soon from BikeAdvice.in

It seems that Indian superbike segment has more reason to party now. S&T Motors, South Korean manufacturer of Hyosung Brand is planning to launch Hyosung GT650N and GT250R in India. Currently it sells Hyosung GT650R and ST7 in India through Garware Motor ltd., a wholly own subsidiary of Garware Bestretch Ltd.  Hyosung GT650N is going to become third offering by the company in India. The company is planning to launch this bike in this month (rumored date is 12th October).  The company also plans to launch Hyosung GT250R by March 2012.

Hyosung GT650N is a street (naked bike) version of Hyosung GT650R. As far as technical specifications concern, this bike will have the same specification as GT650R. It will have the same 647cc, liquid cooled, 8-valve 90° v-twin engine which generates maximum power of 72.65bhp @ 9,000 rpm and maximum torque of 60.9 Nm @ 7,250 rpm.  The major change will come in terms of price.

The bike will be launched at lower price compared to its current version GT650R which sells around Rs.5 lakh. The reduction in price is attributed to absence of fairing and stiff competition from Kawasaki Ninja 650R which sells around Rs. 4.57 lakhs ex-showroom.

The launch of Hyosung GT650N will be followed by GT250R. GT250R has 249cc, oil cooled, DOHC 8-valve, 75° V-twin engine which generates maximum power of 26.27 bhp @ 10,000 rpm and maximum torque of 21.04Nm @ 6,750 rpm. Although, the company has not mentioned the price at which it will be launched, we can expect it around Rs. 2.0–2.5 lakhs range, considering its v-twin engine. This bike will give stiff competition to Kawasaki Ninja 250R which also has parallel twin engine.

It seems that S&T motor wants to expand Hyosung brand presence in India. We may see some more launches in the year 2012. Gradually we can also see some launches in mass motorcycle or scooter segment by S&T motors. It seems that we will have more choice in every segment, in upcoming days.

Royal Enfield is one of the iconic bike makers admired by millions of bike lovers. The maker of some iconic bikes is planning a management restructuring exercise to compete with competitors like Harley Davidson, Triumph and others.  News has it that the Chennai based Eicher group has put in a flat management structure with independent senior vice presidents at every level who will be responsible for leading the departments of markets, product technology and the two wheeler industry as a whole.

The whole idea of Royal Enfield to go out for such a flat based management system came from a British automobile company. Royal Enfield says that this management restructuring would be helpful when it comes to increasing the capacity both in terms of products and revenues. When asked to comment on the company's move, Mr. Padmanabham (Chief Executive) said that he wants to reinvent one of the oldest motorcycle company into an modern automotive one. He was also of the opinion that this strategy would not only help to increase the efficiency but also will be cost effective to the company.

When asked about what exactly is this strategy all about, he said that company is undertaking flat management restructuring wherein a team of four members would play a crucial role in running the company.  He said that Shaji Koshy will be taking over as senior vice president of marketing division after having served the company as senior vice president of sales and marketing for last five years.  Other members include Natrajan Krishnan, who will take over as the senior vice president of products division; Balkrishnan Govindrajan , taking over as the senior vice president of industry. Mr. Padmanabham will join the team as the fourth member.

Padmanabham said that this new structure will help the company move fast and experiment with things they always wanted to put some hands on. In simpler terms, Royal Enfield did decide to count on a team of four who are going to run the company. We will have to wait and see if this management restructuring actually helps the company in attaining higher capacity and revenues.

Lohia Auto Forays Into U.S Market

Original Source: Lohia Auto Forays Into U.S Market from BikeAdvice.in

Lohia Auto, one of the earliest names in India which has made itself synonymous with Electric scooters is now all set to enter the US market. Out of my experience as an Author & Review Writer here with BikeAdvice, never have I reported a news about an Indian company foraying into the US market. This is the first time I'm posting a news like this.

Lohia Auto said that it will foray into the US market during the next financial year with its range of products which will cater that market, for which the company is currently carrying out all the desired regulatory testing. The company is also planning to appoint dealer network in the US market.

Regarding this announcement, Mr Ayush Lohia, Chief Executive Officer, Lohia Auto Industries said, "We are targeting the international market at present. Very soon, we will appoint a distributor in the US and export will start next fiscal."He also added that the company is currently working on "specific needs" on the safety areas for launching its products in the American market by the second quarter of next fiscal.

An Electric scooter named 'Genius' is gonna be the first product to enter the US from India. This scooter was launched in New Delhi yesterday (6th of September). He also told that other electric scooters in its portfolio would follow later along with other products which the company is presently developing.

Few months later, Mr. Ayush had said that the company was looking at many other regions such as Africa, Latin America and a few other neighbouring countries like Bangladesh for exporting its products and strengthening the company's brand name out there.

The company presently has 2 electric models in India by the name 'Fame' and 'Oma'. The newly launched 'Genius' will be priced at  INR 25,495 (ex-showroom, Delhi). At the time of launch, Mr. Ayush said, "We understand the needs of our customers and believe in providing with smart mobility solutions. Our Genius electric bike will cater to teenagers, which is still an un-tapped market. We believe 'Genius' will add significant value in form and function to the electric bike segment and also address the environmental concerns of the automobile industry and the country. Genius aims to inspire the parents to provide their children a safer transportation".

The Genius electric scooter will be made available in a range of three different colours namely Blue, Yellow and Red for the Indian customers. "With the launch of the Genius model, Lohia Auto targets to make deep inroads into the regions where it does not have dealerships and expand its dealer network to 50 in number. We are happy and excited to be in this segment of business as we see the volumes to surge going forward as we increase the portfolio of products", said the CEO, Mr. Lohia.

The Genius brand is aimed exclusively for the teenager segment and also the company is planning to sell 400 to 500 units of this models across the nation. The product will also hit the market in the northern part of the country first and will then hit the other parts of India.

To mention about the company's new product, 'Genius' is capable of attaining a maximum speed of 25 kmph and it can run up to 70 km in a single charge.

When asked about the company's interest in acquiring besieged public sector firm 'Scooters India Ltd' (SIL), Mr Lohia said: "We are still in the race and we will proceed whenever the government comes out with the bid document." Earlier this year, the Cabinet had approved divestment of the government's entire 95.38 per cent stake in SIL, which has been suffering losses since 2002-03 and its entire net-worth completely eroded by 2008-09.

Lohia Auto is also one of the major player in the country in three wheeler passenger vehicle segment. Isn't it really great to hear an Indian company entering the US market. I, personally and from the part of entire BikeAdvice team wishes the company a great future in the new prospect.
