Btown’s latest indulgence is a pair of wheels. Stars and filmmakers, big and small, are obsessing over motorbikes of all shapes, sizes, makes and prices like never before. Angry old man Amitabh Bachchan will ride into his newest role in Bbudha Hoga Tera Baap on a Harley Davidson next month.

Vivek Oberoi was in the news recently for vrooming into Hrithik Roshan’s party on his brand new black-and-yellow Ducati 1098.

Abhishek Bachchan, Zayed Khan and Uday Chopra also love to zip around on Mumbai streets in the still of the night. Bollywood’s Circuit, Arshad Warsi, paid a mini-fortune for his Harley but feels the romance in his staid marriage was brought back after his wife of many years Maria Goretti began to ride pillion.

Industrywallas say Shahid Kapoor brought the romance back into his relationship with Priyanka Chopra, after they split for the first time, by taking her on bike rides.

Mahindra 2 Wheelers Rises in Kerala

Original Source: Mahindra 2 Wheelers Rises in Kerala from BikeAdvice.in

These days we do not get to hear news about some brands like Mahindra, Suzuki and others quite often. The two wheeler industry is dominated by big players who play it big and set strategies to win consumers. In what may come as a surprise; Mahindra 2 Wheelers registered a growth of 147% in Kerala in May 2011. This probably will give a boost to the company as regards their market share and goodwill is concerned.

According to Mr. Devandra Shinde (Vice President Marketing, Mahindra 2 Wheelers) the growth registered by the company is because of the brand acceptance by the people of Kerala since inception. He further said that the company's network has supported it a lot to improve the sales within the state. He also said that this massive growth rate is result of company's tremendous brand building and positioning over the last one year.

Although the company has achieved such a massive growth in the state, it owes its credit to the scooter segment than the bike segment. Mahindra Rodeo, Duro and Flyte have been one of the best sellers as they are available at over 30 consumer points across state with over 8 service centers where people can get their vehicles serviced.

As far as national sales of the company are concerned for the month of May 2011; it stood at 10,970 units, a 36% increase in the national sales as against last year. The cumulative sales of the company's products have crossed 2.5 lakh units with Rodeo contributing 1 lakh unit sales. This pretty much makes it clear that Mahindra owes its sales revenues to scooter segment. All in all, one thing can be made out from this that Mahindra 2 wheelers are so very close to make it big and it is the high time that Honda and other competitors take a note of this. We wish Mahindra all the very best for near future and hope that they succeed in other segments too.

Two New Harley Davidson Motorcycles by 2012

Leaked documents have revealed two new names in the list of 2012 bikes. First is the Night Rod Special Anniversary. As its name suggests, this is a celebration of the 10th anniversary of Harley’s water-cooled V-Rod range. Although we’ve yet to see the bike, it’s a fair bet that it will carry a special anniversary paint  scheme along with a selection of bolt-on extras to differentiate it from the basic version.

Less obvious is the new Switchback. The name doesn’t give much away, but we know it’s a 1688cc  machine using the latest version of Harley’s classic air-cooled motor and that it’s related to the  Wide Glide, using the Dyna chassis. The bike is believed to be a semi-touring version of the Wide  Glide, with removable bags and a screen – the "Switchback" name referring to the fact it can be  switched to a touring role and back again easily.

Elsewhere in the 2012 Harley range, the old 1584cc engine is being virtually eliminated, replaced wholesale by the 1688cc version in most of the bikes that didn’t receive the bigger motor last year. As usual there will be tweaking of colours and specs, plus some alterations in the range of high-spec, 1802cc-engined CVO bikes in 2012

Husqvarna’s New Dirt Bike Sketches

Posted: 18 Jun 2011 11:12 PM PDT

Original Source: Husqvarna's New Dirt Bike Sketches from BikeAdvice.in

Husqvarna has released sketches of what is to be the dirtbike manufacturers’ first ever street machine. The naked streetfighter will use the recently announced 900cc parallel twin-cylinder engine developed by Husqvarna in conjunction with its owner BMW … and if you like your streetfighter with strong lines and sharp angles, it looks like you’re in for a treat.

The new design has a definite supermoto flavor and the minimalist lines, small tank, streamlined tail and familiar red, black and white colors provide a clear visual link with the company’s enduro and supermoto range.

The new 900cc parallel twin is rumoured to produce around 95 bhp and 70 ft-lb torque with a claimed power delivery that’s both linear and smooth at low rpm, but robust at high rpm.

Here’s Husqvarna’s take on the new design: With this new model, Husqvarna is consolidating its philosophy of style: a balanced combination of visual emotion and riding experience. The strong shapes of the body are a consistent evolution of the new style and design direction introduced by the Varese based company, and are testimony of the manufacturer’s ability to innovate.

The architecture of the vehicle is brand new, above and beyond any layout available on the market. The characteristic shape of the side panels, the tension in the vibrant surfaces, the sculpted volumes define an athletic body. Dynamism, agility and lightness are balanced harmoniously. The functional air intakes integrated into the front of the body and the thin tail highlight the unique design of this new model. The technical components which are completely in view are the premise of sportiness, performance and, above all, fun.

So not much in the way of detail as yet, but the new streetbike is expected to surface at EICMA in Milan this November along with some other variations on the 900cc platform.

There’s no confirmation on when the streetbike will reach production or how close to these sketches the final result will be.
For all those who say that the design of KTM is pretty controversial, leave your comments below to tell how you like this new concept.

Hero Honda Becomes Hero MotoCorp – Obtains Shareholders Approval

Greetings! Over the past couple weeks or so the news of Hero Honda becoming Hero MotoCorp is around the web. The news has just materialized on Friday with Hero Honda becoming Hero MotoCorp with the consent of its shareholders officially. Hero Honda Motors Ltd, the largest two wheeler company by volume has on Friday got shareholders approval to change its corporate name to Hero MotoCorp Ltd. With this new name the company is definitely looking to establish a new image for itself and its band of motorcycles.

Now that the shareholders have approved the name changes Hero Honda is looking forward to adopt the name as quickly as possible. Their approval will now be sent to the registrar for any final changes. Hero and Honda are one part of a great 27 year legacy that broke somewhere in 2010 end. The joint venture was literally a benchmark for many of the companies but it is very unfortunate that the venture between the two no longer exists.

On the contrary, Munjals have every right to use the name Hero Honda till 2014 but they are keen to experiment with the new name and establish their own markets post break up with Honda. Moreover Hero Honda has assigned the task of brand positioning and brand building to London based Wolff Olins. The company plans to export to Africa, Latin America, West Asia and South Asia.

The Hero group is keen to focus on their export strategies as now they are under no obligation that can restrict them from exporting their products to countries where Honda is present. The group has also set aside as much as Rs.100 Crores for brand building and market positioning. All in all it is clear that the company is all set to experiment with its new brand name. We will have to wait and see if this name fetches anything to Hero Honda or not.
