Hyosung Slashes GT650N Price by an Insane Rs.65,000

Original Source: Hyosung Slashes GT650N Price by an Insane Rs.65,000 from BikeAdvice.in

Today, while I was talking to one member from the automobile fraternity, I got to know that Hyosung has slashed prices of its very recently launched 650cc mad horse – GT650N, the naked version of the sports GT650R, by as much as Rs 66,000 flat. I checked out from Garware people here in Pune and found the news was absolutely correct.

  • GT650N was launched at an ex-showroom price of 4.39 lakhs. On road Pune this bike was 4.95 lakhs a few days back
  • After the price reduction, GT650N is available at an on road Pune price of 4.29 lakhs all inclusive!
  • Of late this much reduction was really heard mostly in the 4 wheeler segment.
  • So at the effective price now, you can also gift your younger brother another 150cc bike!
  • This marks an insane 13% reduction in the existing price of the product
  • After this reduction GT650N is more than a lakh (1.07 lakh actually) lesser than GT650R and available at 80% the price of its sports brethren.
  • Before the price cut, GT650N was almost in the range of Ninja650R which definitely would have snatched many customers.
  • But now, at a price difference of almost 75k, and almost 85% of Ninja's cost, GT650N makes a compelling and the most value for money 650cc buy!
  • This discount is applicable to all the 3 colors – black, red and white.
  • According to Garware, Pune, they have all the colors available and you can take your bike off the shelf – "Pay today, delivery tomorrow"
  • By paying an amount of just 1.2 lakh, over a Ninja 250R, you would get a 650cc twin with thunderous power of a 650cc mill.

However, according to Garware people here, this is not a permanent discount and is limited till December 15th 'at least'. 'At least' because I am a little apprehensive about the shortterm-ness of the offer (even Garware seems to be not really confirmed).

I feel this would at least go till they clear their existing stocks. Though, I feel this is exactly the slot where the GT650N deserves its place. At a compellingly close distance with the Ninja and even the GT650R, it is really hard for people to convince themselves to buy this one until one is hard set on this bike.

At an all inclusive price of 4.29 lakhs you get a powerful naked street monster. If you plan to go for something in this segment, this probably seems to be the golden chance – hefty reduction, off the shelf & all colors availability, what else do you expect?

MV Agusta Likely to Foray Into India

Posted: 30 Nov 2011 03:35 AM PST

Original Source: MV Agusta Likely to Foray Into India from BikeAdvice.in

If there is one brand of bikes which disturbs my sleep, if there is one brand which I consider is synonymous with track bikes, if there is one brand which I would die to own, if there is one brand which I consider is superior than every other makers across the globe, it has to by my favorite company – MV Agusta.

The company has a great fan base in the Indian sub continent (as long as it has people like me!) All the companies which are the potential threats for MV Agusta across the globe have already marked their presence in the Indian market. MV Agusta should have understood the adage 'Its better late than never. ' Moreover, it's become an untold fact that 'If you wanna be big, you've to be in India.'

MV Agusta in an Italian maker founded in 1945 near Milan in Cascina Costa, Italy. The company was initially started as an aviation company by Count Giovanni Agusta which then got into the bike business. After Count Agusta's death, the company was handed over to his wife and sons, Domenico, Vincenzo, Mario and Corrado. The company built its reputation in the late 50's by coming up with its few of the best Café Racer models in the displacement of 125 to 150 cc. These models made the company popular in the hearts and minds of hardcore biking enthusiasts. It was only in the late 70's that the company forayed into high displacement models.

Few of the competition that MV Agusta will more likely face competition with would be its rival from Italy – Ducati, Aprilla, BMW Motorrad and few other players in this segment.

Mr. Giovanni Castiglioni, CEO of MV Agusta had mentioned in one of his statements that India is a market filled with high potentiality. The company has also expressed its interest in tapping this potential which is shared by many players, off late. The company is concentrating on the premium bike market which will pose huge growth in the coming years.

MV Agusta is on high verge of expanding its market share across the globe. Recently, the Italian maker had forayed into the market s in China, Australia and in some more places. Once, it confirms its plans for the Indian entry, only then the models for India would be let out from the company's side. But, most of its flagship models like the F4 (which is my dream machine), Brutale 920, Brutale 1090, Brutale 675 might all find its way here in less than an year or so. Brutale is recognized all across the world for its beefy looks.

There are more chances that the company will not showcase any of their products in the Delhi Auto Expo, which will see many new models this year. Did I hear you asking me about the pricing? Well, for sure it's not gonna be affordable t most of us. It'll bear a premium price tag so as to compete in the premium segment of mindboggling machines.

How awesome will it be to see MV Agustas on Indian roads zipping past against us? Splendid sight, it would be. Let's wait till it all really happens.

Regards,
M.Naren.

Petrol Might Get Cheaper by 1 Rupee

Posted: 29 Nov 2011 06:52 PM PST

Original Source: Petrol Might Get Cheaper by 1 Rupee from BikeAdvice.in

In a span of not even a full fortnight, we might breathe another sigh of relief as there are chances of state run oil companies reducing petrol prices in the region of rupee 1 to 1.50 including taxes. This news has been doing rounds on all the major news channels and has been cheered by the common man, since it would be the second time he would be able to save a wee bit more in his monthly expenditures.

If everything goes well, the trimming down of prices might go effective from 1st December when generally any change is made effective by the PSUs every fortnight. Combined with the last cut on November 15, if this reduction is brought into effect, a common man would be able to save a hefty amount in between Rs 3.30 to Rs 4 for every liter within a fortnight. Adding to my previous savings of approx Rs.100, I would further save Rs.50 per month on my bike. However, for a common man driving his small car with an average of 16 kmpl and an average monthly running of 1000 kms, total combined (combining last reduction as well) savings vis-à-vis the inflated prices till November 15 would be something in the range of Rs.225 per month.

I also expect Shell to follow suit and reduce prices of its petrol. We will keep an eye on the prices and would update you if we get to hear the fairly good news.

KTM Announces Price Cut for Three Models

Posted: 29 Nov 2011 04:37 AM PST

Original Source: KTM Announces Price Cut for Three Models from BikeAdvice.in

The first KTM bound for India will be showcased in the Delhi Auto Expo by the moth of Jan 2012. Ooof, how many times to report the same news man. I’m in fact bored about it. So, here I come with a post that will make you start scratching your heads and get involved with the post atleast for quite some time.

The Austrian maker KTM on which Bajaj has a 38 per cent stake will be launching the KTM Duke 200 in the Indian market in just a couple of months. But, we are all least informed on what is gonna be the price of this particular bike. Following the foray of the Duke 200, the Duke 350 will also enter the Indian market somewhere round the corner.Across the Globe, the most successful models from the KTM family are the 690 Duke and 990 Super Duke R and the 990 Supermoto R. For the 2012 models of these 3 bikes, the company has announced price cuts in most of the markets dominated by these three models of bikes.

There are most chances that these models will hit the market by the month of February of next year.

Will this advantage of price cut by KTM be passed on to the potential Indian customers? This price cut cannot be taken for granted by us because all the products under the KTM umbrella will most likely be marketed by Bajaj Auto. Hence they will have a say on the pricing if the KTM products here.

We will indeed have to wait for some more time so as to get an announcement from the company about the price structure on KTM products. To know more about the product details stay tuned with us as we'll be bringing live updates from the Delhi Auto Expo.

What do you think should be the price band for the Duke 200 and the Duke 350? Will it sweep the Indian bike market? Leave your comments in the form of words below.

Hero MotoCorp Launches a Webpage for Impulse

Posted: 28 Nov 2011 10:14 PM PST

Original Source: Hero MotoCorp Launches a Webpage for Impulse from BikeAdvice.in

Hero MotoCorp is already recognized across the globe as world's largest two wheeler manufacturer. Now, its reputation has gone up manifold in India for being India's first player to bring in a dirt bike into the country.

The company has updated the features, specs, colour, and price along with an e-brochure carrying all the details of the bike. The site looks very interactive and covers in detail aspect of all the Impulse. The page also has a FaceBook 'Like' button which I hit on seeing for the first time itself. The image of the Impulse right in the homepage markets the bike brilliantly. It projects the bike's brilliancy as a city commuter and an off-roader as well.

The following are the highlights of the Impulse as listed by HMC in the page

  • High torque ATFT engine and high ground clearance for rough terrain riding
  • Raised fender and large diameter front wheel with "stud pattern' type tyres
  • Sturdier front suspension with long stroke and large front disc brake for cross country riding
  • Nitrox gas-filled mono shock rear suspension
  • Straight pull spokes at the rear for touch terrains
  • Low maintenance seal endless drive chain
  • Digital-analog combo meter console with 'service due' indicator
  • Sharp edgy graphics
  • Motocross seat
  • Sporty high mount muffler

The bike is available in 5 different colour schemes namely Terra Rosa which in simple term is nothing but red, Grassland Green, Canyon Orange, Deep Sea Blue and Tar Black. All these colours are impressive on a bike like Impulse where one colour fights over the other for aesthetic supremacy.

Suzuki Launches Intruder M800 in India

Posted: 28 Nov 2011 08:12 AM PST

Original Source: Suzuki Launches Intruder M800 in India from BikeAdvice.in

Suzuki, the brand that is synonymous with superbikes all across the globe has now launched a new bike for the Indian market. The product this time is the Intruder M800 which falls under the category of a cruiser bike. With growing demand for these bikes in the Indian scenario, this bike would aid the company in projecting its sales figures to new heights.

The Intruder M1800R is already prevalent in India. But, its high performing engine was not suited for the Indian roads which is why the same model with a slightly lower powered engine is launched.

The M800 has been launched in 12 cities so far in the Indian sub continent including Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune and Ahmedabad. Regarding the launch of the bike, Mr Atul Gupta, Vice President (Sales & Marketing), Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd (SMIPL) said, "The Intruder M800 is more focused as an entry level cruiser which performs like its bigger brother giving a chance to the Indian youth to step in to the world of performance biking."

The bike is powered by a 805 cc liquid-cooled, fuel-injected V-Twin engine mated with a 5 speed constant mesh gearbox. The fuel injection system with Suzuki Dual Throttle Valve (SDTV) delivers smooth low to mid rpm throttle response and high torque output. The bike is also equipped with an automatic Idle Speed Control (ISC) system which eliminates the choke and shortens the engine's warm up time. For precise control of the bike, the M800 is equipped with a Powerful 32-bit-prosessor Engine Control Module (ECM). In order to cut down the emission from the exhaust, a Pulsed AIR (PAIR) injection system is also fitted on to this bike.

Just like any other macho looking cruiser, the M800 is also visually pleasing with too much of chrome pinch all over the body of the bike. The chrome runs all along the engine as well. The bike is known for its one of the weirdest looking headlamp shape coupled with its fairing. The instrument cluster of the Intruder M800 is integrated with its distinctive headlight cowl to the purposeful tailsection. The instrument cluster boasts of a fuel gauge and a clock too. The silver finish extends to the wheels too. The dimensions of the wheels are 16 inch for the front and 15 inch rear wheels.

The 41mm inverted front forks add sporty looks and performance. The rear tail section is an all LED which looks gorgeous to look from the rear. Also, the rear light is housed within a casing so as to offer an entirely all new look.

10 Tips on Being a Sensible Rider

Posted: 27 Nov 2011 07:53 AM PST

Original Source: 10 Tips on Being a Sensible Rider from BikeAdvice.in

These days, I see a lot of kids riding Activas and other scooters and bikes as well. I don't know if this scene is becoming too common in Bangalore alone or across the nation itself. What makes me worried is the way these kids ride these two wheelers. Small kids in the age group of 13 to 15 roam around in the streets with their throttles fully opened.

There is a reason why I come up with a post on this particular title. Yesterday, a kid (that's what I wanna refer to him as) came speeding in a White Activa, lost his control and fell right in front of my bike. More than the speed with which he came and fell, what made me stunned was the fact that after the fall, guess the number of people who got up. They were four in number. Four people in a single Activa was something I cannot even imagine.

This incident made me the feel that nobody can boast about being a biker, but being a sensible rider is the 'Need of the Hour.' Here are few tips which will make you one.

  1. This is for all those who forget the fact that all vehicles are equipped with turn indicators. They are after all meant to be used. Why can't you indicate the other riders that you're all set to go off the straight road. Make it clear that it's your responsibility to do so.
  2. Two wheelers are meant to carry only two people. I repeat so that it becomes more clear, two wheelers are meant to carry only two people. Where from do you get the idea of making four people sharing a single seat? Agreed that India is still in the clutches of poverty. But, this is a sign of high life risk which affects the other riders and commuters on the road as well.
  3. Don't ever ride your vehicle without Rear View Mirrors fitted. Only when you get a glimpse of what is happening behind you, you'll be able to ride comfortably. I've noticed that all idiots who tend to turn immediately along a straight road are those who haven't installed rear view mirrors.
  4. People tend to ride off their senses in the traffic signals. Don't try pushing yourself into every single gap resulting in dashing the other two wheelers from behind. Understand that you are also in a verge of getting the cars which are stuck with you in the signal getting scratched along its body.
  5. Don't jump traffic signals. I always wanted to ask a question to these guys and here it goes. Isn't it a fact that you can only jump this signal and still be caught in the red light of the next one? What joy does that offer you? For God's sake stop doing that cheap act.
  6. It you're forced to carry some baggage or luggage with you in your two wheeler, see to it that they are properly tied and are intact. Don't ever proceed commuting thinking that it'll stay perfectly in the place where you've kept it. What happens here is that the rider will start losing his/her balance in the mid of the road leading to a disastrous fall. The disaster mentioned here will not be just for you but for other ladies and gentlemen as well.
  7. Guys, keep this is in your mind as a 'Golden Rule' whenever you ride your bike. Be to that side of the road where you are gonna make a turn. If you have to take a left turn along a main road, make sure that you start moving to the left side of the road a little earlier. I do observe a lotta people taking a left turn from the right end of the road. This creates confusion in the mind of the rider coming begin you. This is what is called 'Senseless Driving.'
  8.  This rule is for riders using vehicles with Disc Brakes. It so happens that most of the time, a commuter is forced to brake hard and obviously uses the front discs. But, it so happens that most of the regular riders prefer using the discs over the rear brakes.  The problem with this method of braking is something which you would have never observed. The person following you in his vehicle night not have discs in this bike/scooter. In such a case, when you tend to use your disc at instances where it's not necessary, then there are more chances of your bike getting hit from the rear. This doesn't mean that you don't have to use where you have to.
  9. Please don't ride your vehicle in the night without turning on the headlamp. My pal sitting next to me asks who does it. But, the answer is that there are too many id**ts in the country who does this creating accidents everywhere irrespective of it being the city roads or the highways. Common sense again, right? I've faced issues because of such riders many a time.
  10. There is nothing called 'Negligence' which comes into play when riding. Be alert and careful. Above that be Cautious on what is happening around you in the road.

By the time you'll be reading this post, some senseless rider will be tormenting on the road. As TVS Tyres ad says, 'The Road is Full of Idiots' who cannot be dealt with. But, atleast let us be responsible on our riding techniques so that the rest of the commuters are not disturbed by the way we ride. It is in fact part of our responsibility as a 'Biker'.

Kudos to all Sensible riders who are our readers as well.

Do you have any tips to share?

Regards,
M.Naren.

Price of Electric Bikes to Go Up!

Posted: 27 Nov 2011 07:30 AM PST

Original Source: Price of Electric Bikes to Go Up! from BikeAdvice.in

Hi readers! The electric two wheeler market is considered very good as their demand has increased over time. Well, there is a bad news for all the electric bike lovers as they will now cost you some more money. This sudden increase in the cost of these e-scooters is because of dropping sales and the devalued rupee. Not many days have passed when a dollar would count up to 45 or even less but at present things have reversed and the value of rupee has sharply declined as against dollar. Not only against U.S currency but INR is declining against every other currency in the world.

News has it that since October companies have hiked their prices by 3 to 4 % just to set off the losses from the currency fluctuations. Currently all the e bikes come in a range of 26 to 40k depending on the specifications and models. According to the "Society of manufacturers of Electric Vehicles"; sales have started falling after the prices of products were increased in October due to depreciating rupee.

The director of the "Society of manufacturers of Electric Vehicles" said that people were attracted towards these bikes because of the rising prices of the fossil fuels but as the prices have gone up due to unstable economic conditions; sales dropped. Gill said that the sales will pick up again and the e bike world will again flourish. He said that they are expecting a growth of 50 to 60 % in future years.

As far as the estimates go; 70,000 e-bikes have been sold in 2010-11 fiscal year so far. Gill said that the main concern is depreciating rupee which is impacting the prices of e bikes to rise. Most of the two wheeler makers import important parts like batteries, motors etc.

Almost 40% parts are imported and thus with weakening rupee prices of e bikes tend to rise. He further said that the companies aren't passing the entire burden on to consumers as they want the demand to be intact. Gill, who is also the Chief Executive officer of Hero Electric, said that the margins of e bike makers have sharply declined on account of economic instability prevailing in the recent times. All said and done; we will have to wait and see if the economy improves or not.

Honda to Launch Two New Products In 2012

Original Source: Honda to Launch Two New Products In 2012 from BikeAdvice.in

Honda is a company that is been synonymous with refined engines and trusted bikes all across the globe. The company had proved its potential in India as well with few of its best sellers like the CB Unicorn in the bike segment and the Activa in the scooter segment.

HMSI (Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India) had earlier set a target for itself of selling 2.1 Mn units in  the Financial Year 2012. Now, the company is even more confident of achieving its target within the  specified time.

According to one of the latest news article in Financial Chronicle, 'While other two wheeler makers such  as Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj and TVS reported fall in sales in the range of 5-15 per cent in October when  compared with September this year, Honda Motorcycle managed to maintain its sales volumes with a  marginal drop in sales. The company sold 178,181 two wheelers in October, against 178,146 units in  September.' This figure clearly reveals the potential of the company in the Indian market.

To take these figures forward during the FY 2012, HMSI has also planned to launch two new products in the next year out of which one will be a bike and the other a scooter. But, we've no clues on what category would these new products be falling under. It's not to be forgotten that Honda Activa was indeed a game changer when coming to the scooter segment in the Indian two wheeler market.

Talking about the plans of the company, Mr. NK Rattan, Vice – President – Sales & Marketing told, "We expect this growth momentum to continue. We plan to sell 21 lakh units from our Manesar and Tapukara plant and end the fiscal FY'11-12 with an estimated 27 per cent growth over 16.56 lakh units sold in FY'10-11. We are on track to achieve this target."

The reason for them to stay on track achieving their target is their new plant which started its operation from the month of July this year in Tapukara, Rajasthan. The first phase of this plant with an installed capacity of 0.6 million units production capacity has already been completed. With the second factory of HMSI in the same state of Rajasthan, the company intends to increase the total capacity of its production to a whooping 1.2 Mn units by the month of March 2012.

As a customer , this should rejoice every single customer of HMSI who is either waiting to het its product delivered after waiting for many long months besides satisfying the frequent customer issue of unavailability of spare parts for Honda products. Mr. Rattan said in the interview, "This shall ease out the waiting period to less than one month."

Currently, almost all Honda products are facing a waiting period of 90 days to as much as 180 days and at times even more. This had only added woes to the customers in the recent past.

He also said the present order booking is around 60 days and the company is in a position to serve its customers faster. "Aviator and CBF Stunner are doing very well," he added without providing any further details on the statement.

The company's new scooter will most likely be showcased in Delhi Auto Expo which is scheduled to take place in the month of January 2011. One info we've got about the company's yet to be launched bike is that it's gonna be targeting the youth of the nation exclusively. This news makes us go crazy now. This simply means that the bike is gonna be worth the wait. But, unfortunately its only he scooter which will be showcased and not the bike. The bike will be launched only by the end of current fiscal year. The two launches is solely done with the intention of boosting the company's sales further which enhance the HMSI in achieving their target specified above on time.

Further, to meet the growing demand o Honda's products in theSouthern part of the country, the company has recently laid the foundation stone for its third manufacturing facility in the state of Karnataka. With its expansion from 16.5 lakh units in FY2010-11 to 40 lakh units in early half of the year 2013, HMSI hopes to reduce waiting periods for all its products in the portfolio.

Mr. Subrata Ray, Senior Vice-President, Corporate Ratings, Icra mentioned in one of his comments, "HMSI continues to maintain its leadership position in the scooters segment through its flagship brand Activa (besides Aviator and Dio) enjoying a market share of 45.4 per cent in Q2, 2011- 12."

The figures seems really impressive for a company like Honda with ling waiting periods though its taking all necessary steps to reduce it. We just want our readers to stay with us at the time of Delhi Auto Expo as we'll bring more insights onto these products. Do open up your discussion on the new products from Honda in the box below.
