Scooty Streak Gets an Upgrade

TVS Scooty has been a success story in India for the past one full decade, actually a little more than that. All variants of Scooty were big hits in the gearless scooter market. One main reason for this is that it was the early of the scooters to emerge and in fact Scooty created a segment called 'Scooterettes' at that point of time. To add to the success, it was seen that most if it's competitor's products didn't do well owing to its not so-well pricing.

First was the Scooty followed bt Scooty ES. Then came the Scooty Pep, which started targeting women and girls which was a brilliant strategy for the company. TVS then added 99 new colours to the line up with the tag line 'Babelicious'. The Scooty Pep was finally followed by Scooty Streak, which is not brilliantly laced in the minds of people. But, note that only this variant of Scooty has an Electric variant. The Scooty Pep is still more bringing more sales to the company than the Pep. The moment Scooty comes to our mind, all that we imagine is a beautiful and pretty girl on top of it. Now, you don't have to guys, come on!

The Scooty Streak has now received an upgrade from its manufacturer now.  But, the upgrades are all merely visual and nothing more than colour change and new graphic patterns. The new version has five new colour added to the black body. The Streak had only 'Magic Black' colour scheme earlier, but this add on colours to the black panel makes it damn stylish and cool rather than the hot looks.

The Scooty Streak boasts of LED rear lamp cluster which makes it claim the tag of being the only scooter in the nation to house LED lights. The turn indicators are integrated along with the rear lamp cluster. The external fuel tank lid is what the highlight of this scooter. It gives a sense of practicality when other scooters have got the lid under the seat. There is another reason why girls prefer Scooty Streak over other scooters. It is really a hectic job to park the Activas and Access with their main stand which is not the case with the Streak. This is a feature foir which TVS Motors will have to be really appreciated.

Now comes a feature which not even our bikes are equipped with. The Scooty Streak comes with an in built mobile handset charger in its glovebox. Makes you feel jealous, right? Probably, we are not gifted enough and what else to say?

The LiTec engine if the Scooty Streak offers sufficient power to take a cool spin along the city. It is also fitted with anti – skid tyres to prevent terrific halts at times of emergency braking so as to reduce the internal panic. It comes fitted with a 90/90 – 10" tyres made of a 'wet – compound' which are puncture resistant as well.

To mention about the ride comfort of this Babelicious scooter, its seats are pretty lower than its counterparts thereby offering better and comfortable ergonomics and the seats are made with high – density MDI polyurethane foam. The Streak houses cast aluminium shock absorbers making it an ideal city commuter.

Here is the brief spec list of TVS Scooty Streak

So, next time when a girl asks you to suggest a good looking scooter, would you mind referring this?

While International players are eyeing the Indian market to bring their motorbikes here, the Indian players have understood the potential of the scooter segment which is growing in a very rapid pace as of now. A considerable population of motorists are shifting from bikes to0 scooters owing to high traffic in India's major cities, where scooter with no gears offers them ease of riding.

Hero MotoCorp had announced the launch if it's new scooter 'Maestro' in London at the time of revealing the company's new identity. With this, the India's largest two wheeler manufacturer will have two models in its portfolio – 'Pleasure' and 'Maestro'.HMC has now decided to double up its production capacity of the scooters. Economic Times claims that 'The company, with an installed annual capacity of 6.4 million units across three plants, plans to ramp up the production of scooters to 6,00,000 units a year'. HMC, presently manufactures scooters only from its plant in Gurgaon.

Mr. Ravi Sud, CFO of HMC had said that the production will be stepped up from 8,000 units to 9,500 units at the Haridwar plant over a period of next six months. Production output will be raised at Gurgaon and Dharuhera manufacturing facilities as well. Mr. Sud also said that the company will enforce the employees to work in three shifts from next year to propel the annual output to 7 million units. The company had planned for its fourth plant which was expected to come up by the end of this fiscal in some South Indian state which is now likely to be commissioned only in the second half of the next fiscal. Hero MotoCorp has outlined an initial investment of Rs 500 crore in the plant that is expected to add 1.5 million units to its annual capacity.

2012 Pulsar to Debut in December

Posted: 23 Oct 2011 10:14 PM PDT

Original Source: 2012 Pulsar to Debut in December from BikeAdvice.in

Pulsar is one brand of bikes in India which has succeeded after makeovers and upgrades in every single form right from its inception. The story goes back to as early as 2001 when the first generation Pulsar with no headlamp fairing and round bare speedo dials swayed the market which ended up making great market share for Bajaj Auto. This particular model though was the first Pulsar in the country still makes good deal in the used bike market owing to its macho looks.

Let's stop talking about history and come back to the topic now. We just had a news about a couple of weeks back or so that the visually tweaked Pulsar doesn't match and cope up to the expectations of the customers and hence was off the track compared with the hypes created in the market in regard with this model. But, that visually upgraded (or merely dual tone painted) Pulsars are not the next generation Pulsar. The 2012 model will be out by the end of this year, anytime in the month of December.

Bajaj Auto has confirmed this much awaited news and it is observed that this launch will be to commemorate 10 years of success of Pulsar brand in India. Off late, Bajaj Auto decided to make every product of it as an individual brand, following which Pulsar became a brand by itself. But, this was just a part of marketing strategy which the nation's second largest two wheeler manufacturer came up with.

In a recent interview, Mr. Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto said. "The new Pulsar will be 100 percent brand new and will come with technology better than the current DTS-i. The new technology is the next level for motorcycles, not just the next level for Bajaj." This statement finally makes the news official, marking an end to all the rumours spreading across the internet and various other sources as well.

Industry sources reveal that the 2012 Pulsar will not be a mere upgrade of the existing model, but will be an entirely all new product raised from ground zero.  Mr. Rajiv Bajaj also added, "We launched the first Pulsar in November 2001 and are now ready with a 100 per cent new bike with remarkable engine technology. It is really the next big step after DTS-i."

Mr. Bajaj also claims that the next generation Pulsar will sport technologies and features which no other Indian bike has seen or experienced so far. This creates more hype for the next breed of Pulsars. Pulsar is still the lifeline for Bajaj Auto in making record sales year after year. So, there are even chances that a higher displacement Pulsar to be on the queue. There are in fact chances for a 250 cc bike from the company's stable.

The MDof Bajaj Auto also said, “Our market share is going to stay at 27 per cent for now, but as the Boxer catches on and as we introduce the new Pulsar in January, I certainly hope that we will gain market share. I hope for 30 per cent market share by the time we finish this fiscal year.” When he was the details of the engine that the new bike will sport, he said that the details will be out in due course of time.

There are also chances that this bike will be based on the platform of Austrian brand KTM, on which Bajaj Auto holds 39 per cent stake. The Duke 200 will anyways be showcased in the Delhi Auto Expo which is scheduled to happen on the month of December. So, though we cannot comment about the platform on which the Pulsar will be based, there are high possibilities for this to happen.

Though the 2012 Pulsar will be showcased by the end of this year, it will rock the roads only by next year for that's when the bike will come alive to its production stage. The company is also planning to invest approximate sum of around INR 500 crores in the financial year 2013 as part of its expansion plans.

So, can it be said that the wait is finally over? What do you guys expect from the next gen Pulsar? Do you think it will be worth the wait and will surely be ‘THE’ bike which many of you are waiting for? Leave your comments in the form of words below.

15 Must Read Tips Before Submitting Your Bike for Service

Posted: 23 Oct 2011 08:41 AM PDT

Original Source: 15 Must Read Tips Before Submitting Your Bike for Service from BikeAdvice.in

The best way to keep your vehicle running fresh, lean and green is to do the maintenance on regular basis. All maintenance requirements which owner should follow to keep vehicle in good condition are always provided by manufacturer in owner's manual. It tells you everything you need to know, from what type of vehicle oil to use and how often it should be changed, to recommended intervals for engine and transmission checks, etc. Failing to follow this maintenance rule could void your vehicle’s warranty and reduce your vehicle life.

The design life of all vehicles requires periodic maintenance. Such as chains need adjustment, brakes need to be tighten, proper lubrication levels to be maintained, and so on. In some cases, certain components need replacement, e.g., flexible cables, clutch plates, etc. Anytime we fail to perform maintenance activities intended by the equipment's designer, we shorten the operating life of the equipment. Study over the decades, says that vehicle or machines maintained properly may run longer or performed better than designed one. Instead of waiting for a vehicle to fail, we can utilize preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, or reliability centred maintenance.

Most of the drivers love their vehicles and follow the preventive type of maintenance either periodically or non-periodically. Rest of the drivers wait till some breakdown in their machines. Service stations perform very minor maintenance operations in free services provided by the companies.

These operations are sufficient to run the new vehicle efficiently. Nowadays, service stations remind the owners about upcoming free services via phone, SMS etc. but what should be done after spending the free services? So here are 15 tips before submitting your vehicles to the service station for paid service.

  1. Authorized service stations are not favored by the customers for paid preventive services because the billing amount goes very high. Customer doesn't get opportunity for negotiation in billing amount also, nevertheless you should always prefer company's authorised service stations because of skilled workers along with more number of efficient equipments.
  2. If cost affects to you a lot and you are forced to go with some private garages then always prefer a nearby garage from your home or office for which you got good feedback from your circle. It reduces your time as well as cost. You can also go to inspect your vehicle during the service if you are free. I often do that even with YAMAHA's authorised service station.
  3. Always prefer periodic maintenance if possible. Define the time period according to your usage. Prepare a schedule for a year. 3 months are generally preferred by the service stations. You can increase this duration up to 5 months if you don't have extensive driving. You can have spa wash for your vehicles during this 5 months.
  4. If you can't follow the schedule, then go for non-periodic maintenance but it should be preventive. That means, the time period between two successive services is not defined. You can go as per your convenience or as per your unpredicted usage, but before having any breakdown.
  5. Check your vehicle for any scratches and dents before going to the service stations. Also specify it to the vehicle inspector and if possible, make him to note down on the job card. Many of the service stations refuse their worker's blunder at the time of delivery, if you observe any scratches or dents.
  6. Always prefer a service station / garage where job cards are used. Job card is the communication language between vehicle inspector and worker.
  7. Make a written list of your problems before going to service station otherwise there is a possibility to forget something important at the time of rush hours. Make sure that your problems are noted down by the vehicle inspector.
  8. Check the tool kit provided in your vehicle. It is advisable to remove it. If you can't then count the total number of tools before and after service.
  9. Remove any costly and important stuff from your vehicle (if available).
  10. Always take a drive with vehicle inspector if you are having some dynamic problems in your vehicle. Try to convince him if he refuses your problem. (mostly happens at TVS service stations)
  11. Prefer the oil change in front of yourself as I do.
  12. Make yourself aware about a distance of nearest petrol pump from the service station / garage. Also calculate the mileage of your vehicle. Some amount of petrol is used during the servicing. So keep a level of petrol according to these bits and pieces.
  13. Never accept any replacement proposal blindly. Make sure whether it is really required or not. You can check the maintenance schedule in the user guide or can have suggestions from outside.
  14. Ask for a tentative estimate. Remove any of the servicing or replacing proposal which is not very important at the stage, if the estimate is too much for your pocket.
  15. Authorised service stations also introduce promotional and yearly servicing offers to the customers. So always ask for any promotional and yearly offers before leaving the service station.

I hope these points will help you in future and you all will try to have preventive maintenance. Please add your valuable comments and suggestions.
