Diesel Bike with a Fuel Efficiency of 110kmpl! Posted: 10 Jun 2011 05:25 AM PDT Original Source: Diesel Bike with a Fuel Efficiency of 110kmpl! from BikeAdvice.in Four engineering students from Bangalore have developed a diesel bike that gives a mileage of 110km/liter – a challenging task accomplished by the innovative brains.
Guided by their project guide Dr. S V Prakash, four mechanical engineering students namely Naveen V V, Tony Paul, Nadeem Anwar and Sanjay Bhushan decided develop a diesel-run two-wheeler as our final year project. Fitting a Bullet engine to Kinetic Blaze, they had to do a lot of alterations. While spending four months on the project with various workshops in Bangalore and Coimbatore, they reduced 325cc engine to 200cc, flywheel weight reduced to 7kg and power reduced to 3.5 hp from 6.5 hp apart from many other alteration works. “We have spent almost 72 thousand on the production of this prototype and with mass production, the cost would be around 55 to 60 thousand,” said Nadeem Anwar, a member of the team. The highlight of the innovative work is that it gives a mileage of 110km/liter and it reduces travel expense to a great degree as diesel engine runs at 40 paise per km and petrol engine runs at 1.70 per km. The vehicle offers a smooth ride with automatic gear and clutches and is less polluting compared with other diesel-engine vehicles. In addition, the life of a diesel engine is generally about twice as long as that of a petrol engine. Dr. S V Prakash, the project guide who has been a great help to the young students to materialize their dream project, said India’s largest engineering and construction conglomerate ‘Kirloskar Group’ has shown interest in the technology and has offered to further assistance to the project. TVS to Launch a Bike and a Scooter Posted: 09 Jun 2011 11:15 PM PDT Original Source: TVS to Launch a Bike and a Scooter from BikeAdvice.in TVS Motors is more likely to introduce two new models within this year. One bike and one scooter is in their top list of new launches assigned for the year. Chennai-based TVS Motor Co has said it expects sales to grow by over 14% this fiscal and is gearing up to launch two new models towards the end of the calendar year. "The market is still showing growth, although it is not the same as last year. The industry is expected to grow around 13-14 per cent, while we (TVS) are looking at slightly higher growth than that," the TVS Motor Co President (Marketing), Mr H.S. Goindi, told PTI. For the 2010-11 fiscal, the company had posted a 33.17 per cent increase in sales to 20,46,668 units from 15,36,919 units in the previous fiscal. Its total two-wheeler sales rose 31.86 per cent to 20,06,808 units from 15,21,939 units in the previous fiscal. He said it is unlikely that the expectation of around 25 per cent growth in the two-wheeler market will happen this fiscal. When asked about new product launches, he said the company is gearing up to introduce two new models by the end of the year. "One will be a motorcycle and the other a scooter," Mr Goindi said, but declined to share further details. Earlier, the company had said it would re-enter the Indian electric scooter market with some existing and new models during this fiscal. The company had carried out the test runs of about 50 electric scooters, comprising some of its existing and new models, across various towns in the country. In April 2008, TVS had launched electric scooterette 'Scooty Teenz Electric' with hopes of selling around 40,000 units per year. However, it had stopped the production since May 2009, as it received a lukewarm response from the market. The company had also shelved plans to launch electric three-wheelers.
